I have taken my head off to change my head gasket.?

How do I kno if the head is warped or cracked? will i have to bring it to a head shop? What is the cost if i have to bring it to a head shop?I have taken my head off to change my head gasket.?There is a gauge used specifically for this purpose... but a high quality (reliable) one is too expensive for most consumers... Take it to a machine shop that will check it for you... Most places will only charge like $50 to flatten a head, and will do the check and leak test the valves for free..

You just get a good straight edge to see if the head is warped. They put an electromagnet on it and spray it with iron dust to check for cracks. If it's warped, they put it on a big planer and grind it flat.

If you have the head off, take it to a good auto machine shop and have them pressure or dye check it, if it is aluminum, or

Mag na Flux it if it is cast iron. You can check it with a straight edge and a feeler gage to see if it is warped. Might as well have the valves done as long as the head is off.
