Suzuki Vitara Head Gasket Change =/?

My vitara is overheating and losing ALOT of coolant. It can only make it about 10 miles without overheating.

I have left the car running before and came back and hour or so later to find no coolant in it but also no wet underneath the car.

Is this the head gasket? And can I fix this myself with enough time?

I really don't want to shell out 拢200 quid for 4 hours work if I can do it myself in 8 for free you know?

Thanks!Suzuki Vitara Head Gasket Change =/?Yes it is the head gasket.

As it has overheated several times and been boiled dry it will need the head skimming to be sure to fix it - you will have to take the head somewhere to do that.

You will have the top end off and at some point have to refit the cam belt or cam chain.

You will need replacement bolts and a set gaskets not just one

If you can find a garage that can do it for 拢200 plus parts then snap their hands off but expect to pay another 拢50 for the head skimming.

If this car has a cam belt it would be false economy not to get it changed at the same time as they will have to take the old one off.

A note of caution - the head gasket might be fine but you could have a cracked cylinder head

Yups its straight forward enough to replace a head gasket IF you've changed one before, Joe. Although torquing down means a lot more fiddling around, a few thousand miles down the road. but how can YOU, determine whether the head needs skimming or not?

** Label all your wires too.

Firstly make sure it is the head gasket, if it is you should be able to get any info you need from the link below for the Suzuki Vitara owners forum.
