As coolant enters the engine oil, you lose lubrication........
Get it fixed ASAP or get a new motor and a warranty........Are you sure its a headgasket concern, is it possibly something else. Is the truck going through alot of coolant, is there alot of pressure in the radiator or the overflow bottle. Get it checked out before you assume the worst. The absolute worst?
You could lose power suddenly, lose the power assist in your steering and brakes and run off of a cliff, killing yourself and the poor child playing on the beach where you land.Blown head gaskets are never good. If you get coolant in your cylinder as it is in the compresion stroke you can do anything from bend a rod to crack and shatter your head its self. There is realy not much to doing a head. Go to AutoZone and get a Haynes manuel and head gasket KIT. The book is about 20 bucks and the KIT is about 50. You could do it by your self one afternoon in about three hours, less if you have worked on engins before. I wouldnt drive it much untill you fix it. Good luck.if you changed the gaskets that there wasnt any damage done to the head or motor. First make sure you drain all the oil because it might have water. Then put in new oil and run it. for about a minute. Turn it off and let sit for about 15-20 minutes, then check the oil again to make sure theres no water in it. If theres no water in it, you can drive like that and it will be fine. You'll just burn out the water thats sitting but there not water getting into your oil. This is how my situation went down. Theres no smoke anymore.well with a blown gasket you run the risk of destroying the engine and having to 2 pay a couple grand 4 an other engine. You're burning coolant (the white smoke). You could have a bad intake manifold gasket. At the worst, you have a cracked head.
Both of these repairs will run you close to a grand to fix. You have the Vortec, I'm assuming the 5.7liter...so it's a great engine. I wouldn't even hesitate to fix it and keep driving.
