What is the easiest way to change a head gasket in a 3.8 v6 ford windstar.?

There is no quick way.

However there IS a way to make sure it NEVER happens again.

You need Ford Steel Lined Headgaskets from Ford Dealership.

Then you need to buy NEW HeadBolts from dealership or elsewhere....NOT knock-off brands or cheap bolts....remember you PAY for what you GET!

THEN you need to goto Ford Dealership again....and ask for the torque specs from THEIR shop books.....if they tell you they cant give you them, DEMAND THEM, because they legally are required to do so...especially on the 3.8L engines which had TONS and TONS of HeadGasket problems!!!!

(my dad literally almost got in a fist fight with a mechanic because he wouldnt give us the Specs.....eventually he talked to a manager and he opologized and made us a copy from the dealership books.)

Because what happened was most 1994 and up 3.8L v6 engines had some MAJOR issues....

Around 60-90k....

-headgaskets would tear(no inner steel linning, crappy materials)

-headbolts would stretch

-torque specs were TOO LOW

-the 3.8Lv6 had an unusual slant angle and design

-Iron Engine Blocks and Aluminum Cylinder Heads

Put ALL those together....and it DOESN'T equal a good recipe.

What you NEED to do is IGNORE Chiltons Manuals or Haynes Manuals and possibly even the Ford CD's you get from Ebay....cause nearly ALL of them have INCORRECT torque specs for the Intake Manifolds and Cylinder Heads!

You need the FORD DEALERSHIP shop manuals!

(goto ford dealership, they will copy a pages for you)

Ford UPDATED the torque specs around 1999 or 2000 and NEVER told anyone!

I have the Chiltons Manual, Ford CD, and Ford Dealership manual RIGHT here.....and the specs ARE different as WELL as the bolt-torque pattern! What is the easiest way to change a head gasket in a 3.8 v6 ford windstar.?be careful about only doing a hd gskt/ these engines are famous for bad heads and warped blocks. even sometimes new and reconditioned hds cause other problems/all that new compression on that old tired block produces smoke out the exhaust/ / make sure that you have heads check for cracks and block checked for straight and cylinders checked for warp otherwise all that work for nothing.

there is no easy way to change a head gasket on a windstar.they are a ********* to change.the 3.8 engines had problems with head gaskets blowing since day one.usually around 90,000 miles they blow.
