Better to get a good mechanic on that one i'm afraid. It's not an easy engine to work on.
It's a fairly straightforward job BUT buy a manual first. For the sake of less than 拢20 it could save you a lot of trouble! I presume your changing the cambelt as well. Might be worth replacing the water pump and thermostat at the same time. It's a lot easier when the head is removed and might save trouble later on. The head might need skimming if the engine has been overheated, well worth checking. First remove the cambelt cover and line up the timing marks. The crankshaft pulley bolt is very tight and you will need to lock the engine to undo it. If you select top gear then get someone to press the brake pedal hard it might stop the engine turning when you undo the bolt, otherwise you may need to remove the starter motor and lock the flywheel. Whatever you do, DO NOT turn the engine over when the head is removed as the headbolts screw into the main bearing caps and there is a good chance they will fall into the sump if the engine is turned! These are just a few tips to help as it would take too long to explain the whole procedure in detail, so buy a manual.

When you refill the cooling system make sure you bleed all the air out of the system afterwards. Turn the heater control to hot. The bleed screw is at the righthand side of the head below the distributor on the top coolant pipe. Undo this till now more air comes out. Run the engine until it warms up, then turn the engine off and let it cool down. You will probably find you need to top the coolant up again and maybe even bleed it again. It can be a bit of a bugger to get all the air out of the system, but make sure you do otherwise it will overheat very quickly. Hope this helps and I havn't put you off, but it really is no more difficult than any other engine. Good luck.
