Head gasket change question?

I'm changing head gaskets on a 96 lt1. Do I have to take the pushrods out, or can I just slide it out all assembled and slide it back in? If I can do that, will I have to worry about resetting the valve lash on the pushrods? If I can do all THAT....do I have to worry about regreasing everything if I didn't pull anything out of the heads? thanks:)Head gasket change question? You don't have to take the pushrods out, but if you do it's no problem. They don't have to go back into the same hole.

Adjusting the lash isn't major a deal either, just follow the proper procedure.

You don't really need to lube anything up either. You can reinstall the valve covers with the old gasket on them to keep the inside of the heads clean. At least keep them covered with paper towels.

After you get it assembled, leave the plugs out and crank it for about 20 seconds to get the oil back into everything.

you better take them out. when you sit the head back down on, you have a chance of bending the rods.

You do have to loosen push rods to remove some of the bolts but this is not hard to adjust. Just rotate push rod with your index finger and thumb and you will feel a little tension tighten another quarter turn for start up and adjust again when hot. Remember to put silicone on back seal of intake and front very prone to leaking. also might want to replace water pump very easy at that point just remember they have reverse flow on lt1 and yes i would use a product called trans gel by gm or lubriplate both are great Assembly lubes the trans gel will blend with oil once started and warmed up.
JUst leave the push rods in, i would still check the push rods to see if they are good and make sure that you torque the bolt to what they need to be.
