I am currently in the process of putting back together a 1990 Nissan 240sx. It took me one day to take it apart, after finally getting the head resurfaced I bought a head set (gaskets from the cylinder head up) and I am still trying to get it all back together two weeks later! All the vacuum hoses and stuff is driving me nuts.
It's better to let professionals do it. It will take about 2-3 days.

considering you have never done it, 6 hours too take it off. and depends on whether you will need machine shop time. so we will say no and 8 hours to put it back together.

The SOHC 4 banger is easy...I did mine in 3 or 4 hours.

I've never worked on a DOHC, but it looks a little more complex.



While the head if off, pour some water in the engine....I KNOW it sounds retarted, but ALL that carbon in the engine will be burned out and pour out the exhaust.

taking the head off itself does not take too long after cleaning and setting the new gasket and sealant on the new one about 20=30mins. the hard part is gonna be removing all the crappy wires and remembering all the vacuum lines along with everything else that's ontop of the head, goodluckalex
